I’m big on prep beforehand. There’s nothing worse than watching everyone floating the lake while you are cooking away over a hot fire for two hours. We sometimes precook our steaks and veggies and just reheat over the fire. I also treat camping as a vacation from normal eating and let the kids eat lucky charms and other snacks they don’t normally get.

Our backpack cooler is essential for all outdoor activities. Fits a ton of beverages and keeps it all cold for the weekend. I’m a fan of canned beverages to cut down on dishwashing and the ability to provide for all the different tastes.

We always bring a backgammon set. Sabah makes a great travel one. We also like to bring lots of random sports equipment for the kids to pick up and play with. Paddle ball, a baseball bat, frisbee etc.

We are all about comfort because why sacrifice your creature comforts just because you are camping? I am a huge supporter of good lighting and camping is no different. We only carry one item that is not our own creation and it’s the Uma lantern from Pablo. It’s the perfect camping lantern and also doubles as a bluetooth speaker. It gives off the most perfect warm glow that upgrades any camping situation. If you have the room we always recommend one of our Lite Bell Tents. They are big enough for a family of 4 with pets and bags and all the other stuff you have to put in a tent.

My favorite campfire activity is boombox roulette. You have a mobile music player (Uma lantern works great for this) and pass around an iPhone and the next person in the circle picks the next song. Usually this turns into an impromptu group karaoke session.

Love finding new place on Hipcamp. Going to Salmon Creek Ranch which is a property we found on there at the end of August.

Don’t forget the towels! Our featherweight towels pack small so you can bring a ton and use them for blankets, door mats, table covers, etc. Super absorbent and washable!
